Purpose of the YSI is to promote public awareness of science activities in the Yukon, and to aid and facilitate scientific research and development.

  • Next Lecture
    Lawrence Millman, Author, Ethnologist, Mycologist will visit Yukon for the 2012 Young Authors Conference, April 18-21. Lawrence will present to the public, through the YSI Lecture Series, on Sunday, April 22nd at 7:30pm at the Westmark Whitehorse

  • Lawrence will be talking about "the various ways northern indegenous people use mushrooms - as fire-starter, as smudges, as disinfectants, and as tabacco substitutes, but almost never as food. The talk will include a show-and-tell display of the aforementioned mushrooms, as well as an introduction to ethnomycology (the cultural use of mushrooms)". Lawrence is also eager to connect with Elders, and learn! Contact the YSI Coordinator if you know someone who might be interested in connecting with Lawrence Millman.
  • Lawrence will also be presenting in Mayo, at the Na-cho Nyak Dun First Nation Drop-in Center (http://www.nndfn.com). 12:15pm. There will be a lecture, a light lunch & discussion, followed by a walk...to see what we can find in the snow covered forest, you might be surprised!


  • Yukon Biodiversity Database:
    The Yukon Biodiversity Database contains descriptions of more than 4200 publications and research projects about the biology of Yukon and the Beaufort Sea.

  • The International Polar Year 2007-2009
    The International Polar Year (IPY) started in March 2007, and ended in March 2009. For more information about IPY, and to review the results of IPY research, go to the International IPY website or the Canadian IPY website.
