National Wildlife Week (NWW)
has been celebrated in the Yukon for many years, and in Canada since
the 1940's. Over the last decade, Yukon celebrations have included
community displays and public talks, field trips, contests and more.
NWW activities are now part of the larger Yukon
Biodiversity Awareness Month festivities.
This years National Wildlife
Week theme is: Pollinators- from
flowers to food to our future.
Listen carefully. It can
happen under the cover of night or in broad daylight. It can happen
in the deep, dark forest or wide, open fields. It is one of the most
important biological processes on our planet, yet it remains a mystery
to many. Now its time to expose one of the great secrets in
the private lives of plants ... pollination!
Special posters
produced by the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) are sent out to
Yukon schools. Teachers are encouraged to do hands-on projects to
understand more about the process of pollination and the pollinators
themselves. The Learning
About Wildlife Unit 26 teachers guide is available to
be downloaded and printed as a PDF.
